What. A. Week.
Bella, my fur baby, has a lipoma mass that got nicked the other day and it bled pretty seriously. Luckily, she wasn’t in any kind of pain but man, she put me through a lot. We scheduled surgery as the best possible protocol but once we got there, my getting her sedated was hard enough on her and so my intuition guided me to halt the procedure and take her home. We decided to try some homeopathic remedies first, but she had already had anesthesia so she was walking around with doggy hangover. I asked a friend about a balm she used for her dog a few years back -- she mixed it with frankincense and the tumor shrunk and went away! Unfortunately, I was unable to find that particular product so I plan to make my first salve. This dog of mine has me doing all kinds of things that are not my norm but for her, anything! Now I just need to go get one of those tiny f’n crockpots!!
So two amazing things happened in this process of asking about violet flowers and leaves that are needed for the salve —
1– my friend Shari offered her flowers and chopped all of her violets yesterday and bagged them for me ... are you f’n kidding me!!? Sooo grateful!!! it turns out though it’s not the right species of flower ... can’t be used for medicinal purposes ... but the love and kindness behind the gesture is blowing me away!! Shari I owe you some flowers to replace your chopped ones!! 😘
And 2– For now I’m using this violet flower tincture I found today but guess what and guess where I can possibly get!!?? Yup, a gal in ASHEVILLE called me today and said she is going to have her guy cold press 2 oz of violet flower and leaf oil just for me to pick up next week!! Perfect way to meet new badass business owners and see the area outside the city that day!!
I’m telling you this because all women have huge workloads. Whether you are a mom, fur baby mom, entrepreneur, or just a kick ass woman, chances are, you have a shit load of responsibilities and rarely EVER take the time to show up for yourself. A huge part of showing up for myself, especially after the week I’ve had, is giving myself time to dance it out. Sounds crazy, but putting the music on loud and dancing in my house is where I can really let go of all the negative shit that’s been happening and become refreshed and ready to tackle whatever is next.
Don’t take yourself so seriously ‘cause you have to just enjoy life and have FUN!
The dogs look at me like I’m crazy and that makes me laugh even more. Sometimes I pick up my Bella (#theloveofmylife) and we bounce through the house, while Pharrell belts out “Come Get It Bae!” or while KC & the Sunshine Band goes retro with “Get Down Tonight.”
Yes, I’ve let you in on one of my secret pleasures – a bit of hip-hop and ‘70s music – totally dance worthy. The songs take me to a place where I don’t have to think for a while!
Having fun, dancing, and singing out loud when no one is watching, and playing with your pets (or borrow a friend’s dog!) helps you to shed the vulnerability in real life.
It allows you to be yourself without apologizing for any of your quirks.
I DARE you ... Throw our own dance party! Take a selfie of you dancing with your dogs (or kitties), or jamming to your favorite songs. Share it on Facebook and Instagram me with the hashtag #womanredefineddanceparty! Be sure to tag me so that I’m sure to join in on the fun!
This is one of the many things that I do and that I call ‘self care’. Because self care isn’t always a massage or a spa or glamorous stuff. It can be simple and feel good. Like a walk in your favorite park with a good friend or grabbing a camera and taking photos of the light and shadows and whatever else feels good.
Getting out in nature really soothes my soul so I try to make it a point to hike once a week lately. I stop and listen to the birds and the trees and watch the sunlight dapple through the leaves. It is amazing how that now feels like such beautiful self care to me! And I love it!
So I challenge you to grab some of those simple pleasures and see if they turn up the volume in your life just a notch and have you feeling ready for days to come!
After all, it is only when our cups are overflowing that we are available for others in our lives in full and complete presence.
Have a wonderful week and let me know what you decide to do for your own self love and self care this week!
